Home MenuSecond Force Main Under I-75
This project is complete
Project Background:
This project included the construction of a new 24-inch wastewater force main under I-75. The City historically utilized a single 20-inch force main crossing I-75 to transfer wastewater flow to the Water Reclamation Facility (WRF). As stated in the City’s Wastewater Master Plan, wastewater flow to WRF would be cut off if the existing 20-inch force main were to fail or the need arose to take the force main out of service for maintenance. In addition to the need for redundancy, there are additional planned developments on the west side of I-75 that will have additional wastewater flows, including the recently built Sarasota Memorial Hospital. The Hospital has a new lift station, which has been turned over to the City. This lift station will receive a majority of the future flows in this area of development.
Project Benefits:
Completion of this project provides redundancy that significantly reduces the possibility of a wastewater flow interruption to the WRF. Only one force main previously conveyed flow under the highway to the WRF. Completion of this project results in increased protection of the environment from unforeseen circumstances that could arise if the original 20-inch pipe were to fail. The level of service to the entire community is enhanced by this project.
Project Status:
Substantially complete, working on final close out.
