Home MenuIntracoastal Second Force Main
Project Background:
This project involves the construction of a second wastewater force main to convey waste-water off of the Island. There is currently only one force main that transfers the Island’s wastewater flow to the Water Reclamation Facility (WRF). The City could have issues if the existing force main were to clog or break. This second wastewater force main across the Intracoastal Waterway (ICWW) would provide a redundant method to convey wastewater under the waterway. As stated in the City's Wastewater Master Plan, should the existing 14-inch force main fail or require maintenance, wastewater flow to the WRF would be cut off. The additional force main greatly improves system reliability and improves the level of service to the residents of Venice.
Project Benefits:
The project will provide a redundant wastewater force main and the gravity sewer system to Master Lift Station #07 (LS-07) located along Calle De Toro in the event the existing force main is not operational or capacity is exceeded. LS-07 conveys all of the Island’s flow to the WRF. It will also help during high flow situations such as a hurricane or heavy rain while protecting the environment by minimizing risk.
