The Detective Division is made up of four separate units which include, criminal investigations, special investigations, school resource officers, and the crime scene, property and evidence function. All of these units are overseen by the Support Services lieutenant and the day-to-day operations are carried out by the detective sergeant.

How many officers serve as School Resource Officers and what are their responsibilities?
Two officers serve as resources for Venice High School and as liaisons for other schools in the community. These officers are tasked with keeping students and faculty safe within Venice High School and handling all calls for service which originate inside the school.
Who is responsible for managing Crime Scene, Property and Evidence?
The crime scene, property and evidence unit is staffed by one crime-scene technician who responds to process crime scenes, collect evidence and mange the property that comes into the department on a daily basis. This position is also responsible for managing all requests from attorneys and outside entities for property and evidence to be processed, released, destroyed and inventoried.
