Have you ever wondered HOW a building gets to look the way it does? WHY are some buildings close to the road and some farther away? How about why Venice Avenue hosts numerous restaurants but Harbor Drive does not? These types of regulations are based on Land Development Regulations which include allowable uses, building heights, setback requirements, and more!

From 2016 to early 2018, the City of Venice concentrated on updating the City's Comprehensive Plan which went into effect on January 12th, 2018.

The 2017-2027 Comprehensive Plan creates a vision for the City, guiding future development in a direction representative of resident concerns. Understanding community values today ensures the City can support and advance those values tomorrow.

Now that the 2017-2027 Comprehensive Plan has been adopted, the City is now working to update the Land Development Regulations. Planning Commission meetings are held every 2nd & 4th Tuesday of each month at 1:30pm for further discussion on this topic. Special meetings and Workshops are also posted periodically through our website and other Social Media. Please visit https://venice.legistar.com/Calendar.aspx to check for the next meeting.

Contact the Planning & Zoning Division for any required documentation. It is located at City Hall in Room 109 and is open from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The main phone number is (941) 486-2626 ext. 7445.
