Permits and Applications

  • Construction Permits (application) must be obtained for all proposed improvements that require site and development plan review or other applicable City regulations. Improvements requiring a construction permit include streets, utility improvements, common use access driveways, multi-family, commercial, and industrial developments, etc.  Submit construction plans through the City's Online Permitting system after Planning and Zoning's technical review approval. Construction plans will not be accepted for review until permit fees have been paid. Construction Plan approval will not be issued until Planning Commission approval has been obtained, and all required plan revisions are completed (as a result of the meeting). Construction plans must conform to the Planning Commission's approved Site Plan and SWFWMD Permit documents. The EOR must provide a signed and sealed engineering report, including lift station calculations  (if applicable) demonstrating that the existing wastewater system and proposed wastewater system are able to support the proposed development. A City of Venice Construction Permit and all applicable State and Federal permits are required before beginning any work.
  • Modification of an approved Construction Permit requires submittal through the City's Online Permitting system.
  • License Agreement (application) may be applied for, and is only granted, in cases of extreme hardship in removing encroachment on the city right of way or for special exceptions involving proposed encroachments into the city right of way; e.g. pavers installed over concrete per city details. The completed must be submitted to the City Clerk's office.
  • A right-of-way use authorization (application) must be obtained from the Engineering Department prior to initiating the installation of any improvements or conducting any construction activities within the city right of way.
  • The Site Preparation Permit (application) is required for any construction activity that has the potential to pollute an existing drainage system or a receiving body of water, such as earthmoving, site clearing, concrete pouring, boat dock installations, and demolitions.
