The City completed the Tarpon Center Drive Glass Seawall Project in summer 2025 as part of a Nature-Based Flood Mitigation Pilot Project. The aging seawall, which was damaged during Hurricane Idalia in 2023, was replaced and raised to help reduce roadway flooding caused by storm surge and high tides at the intersection of Tarpon Center Drive and The Esplanade S. A transparent glass flood barrier was installed atop the seawall to provide additional flood protection while preserving waterfront views along this important evacuation route. The project also included the installation of reef balls to support the development of a living shoreline and oyster habitat. A significant portion of the project was funded through the Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Office of Resilience and Coastal Protection Resilient Florida Program.
