The City of Venice Utilities Department is about to begin construction of the Davis Street Sanitary Sewer Improvements project. The Contractor, DeJonge Excavating, is expected to be on-site beginning the week of Monday, May 11. The project area includes Davis Street between Base Avenue East and Field Avenue East.
This project includes repair and replacement of portions of the gravity sewer system, which is up to 60 years old and subject to clogging and groundwater infiltration. Construction activities include the relocation and installation of three new sewer manholes and abandonment of approximately 700 feet of existing gravity sewer mains. Following the utility work, the affected roadway will be repaired and paved with asphalt.
Construction is expected to take up to 8 weeks. Weather conditions and unforeseen circumstances may influence the progress of work and completion date.
Davis Street will be intermittently closed throughout construction. Traffic is expected to detour to Cooper Street. Large equipment and machinery will be within the road right-of-way or parked. Please drive slowly and use caution and watch out for pedestrians and workers. Motorists and pedestrians are to follow posted traffic control signs. Electronic signboards will also be utilized to inform motorists and cyclists of possible detours or areas requiring additional caution.
Disruption to wastewater services should be minimal and affected properties will be notified separately.
