UPDATE: Lane closure notice for Venice Ave. drawbridge 6/10-11

Post Date:06/10/2020 4:24 PM

**A note that this work was postponed from Sunday and Monday nights (6/7-8)

Venice Avenue drawbridge (owned by Sarasota County)
Maintenance crews will be working on the Venice Avenue drawbridge tonight, Wednesday, June 10, and Thursday, June 11 (weather permitting), making repairs to the drawbridge deck joints, in association with the recent bat exclusion project. A flagging crew will allow alternating eastbound and westbound traffic on Venice Avenue over the Intracoastal Waterway between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. each night. The recommended alternate routes are the KMI and Circus drawbridges at the north and south ends of Venice. All local emergency response teams will be notified. Marine traffic will not be affected.

The County contractor blocked off the gaps in the bridge to exclude the bats from entering the structure. The bats were causing major staining and odor issues beneath the bridge. The contractor also placed new bat boxes up near the bridge to provide new living space for the bats.
