Snake Island closure set for 3/26

Post Date:03/25/2020 2:57 PM

snake island boaters 3.21.2020From WCIND Executive Director Justin McBride:
The weekend of March 21-22 saw extremely heavy boat traffic and a large congregation of boaters on and near the WCIND (West Coast Inland Navigation District) spoil island known as Snake Island in Sarasota County.
In light of the rapidly evolving nature of the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus), particularly the imminent threat posed by close social interaction and large gatherings, WCIND will be temporarily closing Snake Island to public access beginning 10 a.m. Thursday, March 26 until further notice. No trespassing signs will be posted. This action is consistent with Sarasota County’s Emergency Administrative Order of March 20 closing Sarasota County public beaches. This closure is temporary and will be lifted when the COVID-19 crisis has abated.
