Downtown Beautification Update 2/21

Post Date:02/21/2019 12:42 PM

Below is the Downtown Venice Beautification Update for Thursday, Feb. 21, as well as a map of current street closures.

VeniceAve_2.21.19Landscape installation continues in the median. Installation of the large palms is scheduled to be completed this week. The plantings are under warranty by the local subcontractor for one year. Often after transplanting, palms and shrubs go through a “shock” period where they can lose fronds or leaves and turn yellow or brown. The landscaping subcontractor is monitoring the health of the plantings. Crews have modified the pedestrian fence to a single row. Crews continue installing the plant hanger poles and electric. Motorists should expect lane closures on W. Venice Avenue during the daytime for the contractor to complete this work.

TampaAve_2.21.19Tampa Avenue is currently CLOSED to through traffic from US 41 Business to Nassau Street. Tampa Avenue is open to local traffic from Harbor Drive to Nassau Street with access to parking lots on the south side.  Underground drainage on Tampa Ave. is completed.  Crews continue roadway work and grading for sod. Curb work continues on the 100 block. Paver installation begins next week. To access businesses on Tampa Avenue and Nokomis Street, including the Venice Theatre, motorists should use Nassau Street to St. Augustine Avenue or Santa Maria Street. To access the alley south of Tampa Avenue, motorists should use Nokomis Street.

Nokomis Avenue is open to LOCAL TRAFFIC ONLY from W. Venice Avenue to the alley entrance just south of Tampa Avenue. To access businesses on Nokomis Avenue north of Tampa Avenue, motorists should use Santa Maria Street.

Crews continue landscape and hardscape installation. Tree plant hangers are being installed. The aggregate for around the tree bases is anticipated to be installed in mid-March. The barricades around the trees will be removed once this is completed.

Nassau Street is open to provide north/south circulation for vehicles. The contractor will resume work on Nassau Street once other areas are opened to vehicles.
