Mayors' Feed the Hungry Thanksgiving Food Drive Nov. 5-16
The annual Mayors’ Feed the Hungry Thanksgiving Food Drive is being held Nov. 5-16, 2018.
Venice City Hall at 401 W. Venice Ave. is participating with Mayor John Holic. Boxes for donations of nonperishable food items (no glass please) are available in the City Hall lobby. Nonperishable items that can be donated include:
Soup, meat, tuna fish, vegetables, peanut butter, jelly, fruit, spaghetti sauce, pie filling, condensed milk, desert, cranberry sauce
Rice, noodles, dried beans, spaghetti, cereal, Hamburger Helper, instant potatoes, stuffing mix, pie crust mix
Volunteers will pick up the food after the drive is over and take it to be sorted. It will be given to local food pantries free of charge to member organizations of the Mayors’ Feed the Hungry program. All the food will be given away free to hungry people in time for Thanksgiving.
The Mayors’ Feed the Hungry Program has food collection boxes in over 400 locations throughout Sarasota and Manatee Counties including City Halls, schools, police and fire stations, and many businesses and other organizations. Last year, 74 tons of nonperishables were collected for those in need, and organizers hope to exceed that amount this year.
