Venice has more than 30 parks ranging in size from tiny pocket parks to the beach along the Gulf of Mexico. Some of the more unique parks include Paw Park, where dogs may romp on the beach, and Venetian Waterway Park, where people may bike and hike on a 5-mile stretch along both sides the Intracoastal Waterway. Dr. Fred Albee was a world-renowned orthopedic surgeon who came to Venice from New York. He was the first to hire John Nolen to plan a city, but shortly after sold his holdings to the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, who fulfilled his dream of building a beautiful city on the Gulf of Mexico. The park is located between Nassau Street and St. Augustine Avenue.
