MISSION
The Building Department's mission is to facilitate effective solutions for promoting the health, safety and welfare of the public via its building permit program. The Building Department also administers all code enforcement issues related to violations of the city code of ordinances.

The mission of the Engineering/Stormwater Department is to proactively manage engineering, capital improvements and the stormwater utility; and to ensure reliable and convenient access to city services, facilities, recreational and natural resource to enhance the quality of life of the City of Venice residents.

Development Services
The mission of Development Services is to provide accurate information to the public regarding city land use and housing, community development and economic development programs; provide quality customer service; seek creative solutions that amplify city resources; build partnerships; protect the environment; and improve the quality of life.
It is Development Services' goal to ensure quality and structural safety while maintaining the community character of Venice. Development Services staff will guide applicants through the development process from discussing the concept to presenting plans to the Planning Commission and City Council. They can answer questions, help obtain a building permit, and schedule inspections.
Development Services includes building, code enforcement, engineering, stormwater manage-ment, and planning and zoning.
The goal of Development Services is to treat each customer in a fair and consistently professional manner. Staff is committed to providing service that meets the customer's needs while staying within the laws and regulations that the City is obligated to follow. City employees are empowered to personally resolve many issues.
