The city has a water reclamation facility located on the east side of the city off of Laurel Road, near Interstate 75.
Due to the recent expansion of the Eastside Wastewater Treatment Plant, the one on the island has been decommissioned since the fall of 2004. At this time all of the City's wastewater is being treated at the Eastside Wastewater Reclamation Facility. The wastewater is treated and disinfected and then piped to several neighborhoods and golf courses to be used for irrigation. The city plans to expand its reclaimed water system over the course of the next decade to provide this service to all homeowners in the city.
