Each residential unit in the city of Venice is entitled to a once-a-week recycling collection of unlimited recyclables and properly prepared yard waste for a monthly fee of $7.28. Included in this fee is a twice yearly bulk collection of either yard waste or appliances.

A residential unit is a single-family home, a mobile home or a condominium unit. A duplex would be considered two units.

Household Recycling:

Residents are provided with two or more 14-gallon red recycling bins used for once-a-week collection of recyclables. To receive bins and to inquire about collection day, call 486-2422.

Bins for paper goods and bins for other materials are both red. All recyclables should be in bins and not in bags.

Corrugated cardboard boxes should be broken down and placed next to Bin 1. Other items to include with cardboard are boxes or cartons that contained crackers, cereal, frozen foods, dry foods, beer, soda and shoes; chip board used for writing pad backing, and paper towel and toilet paper rolls. These items cannot go in the bin for paper or commingled items, but must be placed on the side with cardboard.

All recycling should be placed next to the curb by 7 a.m. Containers should be removed from the street by 6 p.m. on the collection day.

Paper Bin:

Newspapers, magazines, phone books, catalogs, newspaper inserts, brochures, manila envelopes, regular envelopes, office paper, paper bags, craft paper and junk mail. Shredded paper should be put in a bag.

Items not suitable for paper recycling are:

Packing paper, cereal boxes, shoe boxes, pizza boxes, paper plates or cups, tissue paper, napkins, paper towels and any waxed paper or cardboard. These items go into the regular household garbage.

Other Recyclables Bin:

Aluminum cans, foil and trays; steel and tin cans; clear and colored glass bottles; plastic bottles; juice boxes; milk and juice cartons; empty aerosol cans (no hazardous waste).

Lids should be rinsed and removed from their container. Plastic bottles should be flattened.

Items not suitable for container recycling are:

Plastic bags, Styrofoam, drinking glasses, deli containers, yogurt or margarine tubs, scrap metal, plate glass or dishes.
