The Venice Police Department is under the direction of Chief Julie Williams.

The department has a staff of 74 authorized employees, 53 sworn officers, 19 civilians and 2 P/T crossing guards.

The Uniformed Patrol Division is responsible for operating within seven zones of the city and providing a uniformed patrol force. The patrol force is the initial responder to citizen complaints and law enforcement emergencies. It is also responsible for investigating traffic crashes, traffic control and enforcement, parking enforcement, coordination of special event duties, marine and bike patrol and electronic dispatching and recording of calls for service.

The Support Services Division is responsible for crime investigation, departmental training, records, public information, personnel, crime prevention and community policing programs, youth services, drug investigations, school-crossing guards and internal affairs.

The Venice Police Department sponsors Venice Police Explorers Post 86, a group of young people interested in law enforcement.

State of Florida FDLE Link for Sexual Predators

Venice Police Department is seeking volunteers for parking enforcement (unpaid position). A 16-hour training session is scheduled for Jan. 14 and 15, 2008 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Please sign up at your earliest convenience, as space is limited.
 
Other volunteer positions (unpaid) are available for school safety crossing guards. An 8-hour training session will be scheduled in early 2008.
