The department has a staff of 74 authorized employees, including 53 sworn officers, 19 civilians and 2 school crossing guards.
The Uniformed Patrol Division operates within seven city zones and provides a uniformed patrol force. The patrol force is the initial responder to citizen complaints and law enforcement emergencies. Patrol responsibilities include investigating traffic crashes, traffic control and enforcement, parking enforcement, coordinating special event duties, marine and bike patrol, electronic dispatching and recording calls for service.
The Support Services Division is responsible for investigating crimes, departmental training, records, public information, personnel, crime prevention and community policing programs, youth services, drug investigations, school-crossing guards and internal affairs.
The Venice Police Department sponsors Venice Police Explorers Post 86, a group of young people interested in law enforcement.
