Special Olympics Fishing Tournament

The Venice Police Department has sponsored the Special Olympics Handicap Fishing Tournament for 10 years. The program sponsors 20 to 25 Special Olympic Athletes who join local boat captains for a day of fun and fishing.

The event kicks off just before the annual Sharks Tooth Festival. Local boat captains donate their time and vessels to make this event very special and memorable for the athletes.

Each athlete, boat captain and crew member receives a hat, t-shirt and sunscreen. After they complete their day of fishing, the group meets at Marine Max for lunch and fish story exchanges.

The awards ceremony for the athletes who participate in the tournament is held at the Sharks Tooth Festival grounds.
