Employment Opportunities

The City of Venice is an Equal Opportunity Employer. As part of our Drug Free Workplace program, successful candidates must pass a drug screen and pre-employment physical exam. In accordance with the Immigration Reform Act, appropriate identification documents verifying eligibility for employment will be required. POLICE OFFICER QUALIFICATIONS

To be eligible for employment as a Police Officer with the City of Venice, an applicant must:

  1. Be a citizen of the United States.
  2. Prefer candidates be Florida Certified (or Certifiable) in Law Enforcement, but will accept applications from individuals who are currently enrolled in a certified police academy.
  3. Prefer  Associates degree from an accredited college or sixty (60) college credit hours with no Law Enforcement or Military experience; or have attained a minimum of 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university combined with either three (3) years of law enforcement experience or three (3) years of military experience
  4. Be of good moral character as determined by a thorough background check, including no conviction of a felony or a misdemeanor involving perjury or false statement.
  5. If a veteran of an armed service of the United States, must have a minimum of a General Discharge.
  6. Possess a valid Florida Driver’s License.
  7. Applicants must have successfully completed the State-approved Physical Abilities Test within the last two (2) years. Any applicant not meeting this requirement will be administered the PAT and must successfully complete the test.
  8. Undergo a physical examination by a licensed physician, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner. Visual acuity is included in the exam. Based on the results of the examination, the examining physician must attest that the applicant is capable of performing the essential functions of a police officer.
  9. Be a minimum of nineteen (19) years of age.
  10. Successfully complete a Polygraph.
  11. Successfully pass a Drug Screening Test.
  12. Successfully pass a Psychological Evaluation.
