The Venice Police Department crime prevention mission is to help establish an interaction between the citizens of the community and the police department. A partnership between the two helps identify and target the problems in the community.
Henry Fielding, an English novelist, helped found the Bow Street Runners in 1749. This organization is believed to be London's first police force. Fielding is considered the father of crime prevention based on two of his crime prevention goals: to stamp out existing crime and prevent outbreaks of crime in the future. These are the same goals professional police agencies strive to accomplish today.
At the Venice Police Department, we are committed to anticipating, recognizing and appraising crime risk and initiatiing action to remove or reduce it.
