
The Planning and Zoning Department is responsible for land development planning, including review and coordination of zoning cases, subdivision plats, site plans, administration of design review requirements, variance requests, use permits, sign permits, zoning ordinance amendments, and petitions for annexation. The department promotes the development of economic vitality and diversity and ensures outstanding delivery of public services. It works in partnership with the Planning Commission and City Council to ensure business interests and community needs for future growth and development are met.
Project Planning Schedule
Each major project worked on by Planning and Zoning Department is found on the planning project schedule. This schedule provides project status, file number, assigned staff and target hearing or completion date. The schedule is updated on a bi-weekly basis.
Land Development Application Forms
Each type of land development petition has a specific application used to initiate the process. All petitions require a pre-application meeting with planning staff. Staff Contact List 
The city of Venice Land Development Review process consists of city agencies affected by, or the regulators of, proposed development. City staff is responsible for providing professional, informed reviews of proposed development. Issues considered by city staff include adequacy of public facilities, services and utilities and consistency with the city's comprehensive plan, zoning code and land development regulations.

Planning Commission
The City of Venice Planning Commission is an appointed seven-member citizen board responsible for reviewing all land development projects. Each planning commissioner is appointed to a three-year term.
