The city manager’s office oversees strategic planning for both the city organization and the community.
Long-range planning for the organization includes staffing and efficiency assessment through performance and goal setting and outcome measurement. This on-going program was initiated in 2004 and currently is focused on a city-wide initiative to incorporate the city council’s PRIDE program integrating the City of Venice core beliefs, vision and mission statements into the daily work activities of employees.
Community strategic planning consists of special projects that promote the objectives of the city council for the purpose of enhancing the safety and quality of life for all citizens of Venice. Led by the mayor, the city council defines and prioritizes this list of projects annually at its strategic planning workshop. An example of this type of project is the redevelopment master planning study of the U.S. 41 Bypass corridor and Intracoastal Waterway currently under way.
