Risk and safety services are managed in the City Manager’s Department by Risk and Safety Services Manager Mike Johnson, Risk and Safety Officer Alan Bullock.
Among the duties of risk and safety services are the identification, analysis, control and financing of risk associated with the City of Venice operations. Efforts are directed to reduce risks resulting from workers’ compensation claims, liability claims and damage expenses for buildings, inventories, vehicles and equipment owned by the City of Venice. This includes the review of contracts entered into by the city, inspections of properties and other activities to ensure the conservation of city assets. The city's point of contact for claims handling (typically auto/general liability) is the risk & safety officer.
The risk and safety services manager oversees the proactive preparation for emergencies, while the risk and safety officer coordinates the application for public assistance grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency after a disaster.
In coordination with city staff, risk management reviews new bids, contracts, leases, special events and parades to evaluate the transfer of risk through indemnification language and insurance requirements.
