Building and Code Enforcement Director Hans Behrens, certified building official, heads the Building and Code Enforcement Department. With 10 employees, the department strives to facilitate effective solutions for promoting the safety, health and welfare of the public. It administers all code enforcement issues as related to violations of the city of Venice code of ordinances. Director Hans Behrens is the contact person for the following boards:

• Architectural Review Board
• Municipal Code Enforcement Board
• Construction Board of Adjustment and Appeals, which also acts as the licensing board for the purpose of disciplinary actions against contractors only.

Florida Building Codes and Standards:

The statewide code, 2004 Edition, was effective on October 1, 2005. The code with 2005, 2006 amendments incorporates building, residential, existing building, plumbing, mechanical, fuel gas, energy, accessibility, coastal, manufactured buildings, state agency codes, and the 2005 national electric code.
